In 2019, he made 12 starts at left guard and left tackle, helping an offense that gained more than 400 yards per game on average.

He was chosen for the starting lineup of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Chicago Bears selected Simmons with the 227th overall choice in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
