Murray, who was raised in Titusville, Florida, went to Onondaga Central High School in Onondaga, New York, where he participated in football, basketball, and track as a three-sport athlete.

Murray participated in collegiate football for Central Florida University. In the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Murray was drafted by the Oakland Raiders as the 181st overall choice. In that year’s draft, he was chosen as the 15th running back.
