Montez Sweat, a professional football defensive end, is a member of the National Football League’s Washington Commanders. He is 1.98 m tall and weighs 119 kg. While a student at Stephenson High School and a participant in high school football, he was recognized as one of the best tight ends in the country.
After high school, he committed to Michigan State in order to play collegiate football for the Spartans. Before redshirting in 2014, he played in two games there, recording one sack. After graduating from Michigan State in 2016, he registered at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. In order to play for the Bulldogs, he transferred to Mississippi State.
Named to the 2017 All-SEC football team, he recorded 10.5 sacks in his lone season at Mississippi State. After that, he made the 2018 All-SEC football team and was selected an All-American for his senior year in 2018, when he recorded 12 sacks. He ran the 40-yard sprint in 4.41 seconds at the 2019 NFL Combine, breaking the previous mark for defensive linemen.
As the 26th overall choice in the 2019 NFL Draft, Sweat was taken by the Washington Redskins in the first round. Against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15 of the 2021 NFL season, he recorded a sack and forced a turnover. The fifth year of Sweat’s contract option was taken up by the Commanders in April 2022.
