On Saturday, April 30, American football player Pau’u signed the Buffalo after the NFL Draft. The news was revealed by BYU football on Twitter. The former BYU wide receiver joined a 2021 Bills squad that finished 11-6 and advanced to the playoffs.
Neil Pau’u, the younger brother of linebacker Butch Pau’u, was born in Santa Ana, California on November 9, 1995. His parents are Tupou and Uepi. Prior to attending BYU, he was a Wide Receiver for Servite High School. He is currently 26 years old.
The Buffalo Bills signed nine undrafted free agents, including Neil Pau’u, before their rookie minicamp last weekend. Neil Pau’u spent his first two seasons at Brigham Young University (BYU) in a limited capacity before going on to play four seasons there.
He recorded 32 receptions, 355 receiving yards, and three touchdowns during that span. Zach Wilson had a significant contribution to the offense in 2020, his breakout year with BYU when he hauled in 45 passes for 603 yards and four touchdowns.
Pau’u isn’t a burner, but he has a big physique and steady hands at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds. He could play as a tight end with his arms outstretched at BYU and lined up both inside and outside.Pau’u played wide receiver after switching from quarterback to start his high school career. While attending BYU, he occasionally completed passes on fake plays.
Pau’u continued to play an important role in the offense last year, leading the group with 46 receptions, 526 receiving yards, and six touchdowns.
Neil Pau’u could help the Buffalo Bills’ lack of a strong wide receiver group, but he will probably struggle to make the 53-man roster this season. Pau’u would be most known for his size at the wide receiver position. At 6’4″ and 215 pounds, he would be the tallest wide receiver on the team with Jake Kumerow.
