He was born and raised in Georgia in the USA on January 10, 1997. He played baseball non professionally at Greenbrier High School in Evans, Georgia where he was a student. After high school, he got into the University of Southern Mississippi where he played college baseball for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Nick also played collegiate summer baseball with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2017. At the University, he won the C Spire Ferriss Trophy which is an award given to the best collegiate baseball player in Mississippi. He was also named the Conference USA’s Baseball Pitcher of the Year as well as the National Pitcher of the Year Award from Perfect Game/Rawlings.

The Cleveland Indians drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2018 MLB draft. He signed with them, receiving and earning $750,000 as a signing bonus. He started his professional career that season with the AZL Indians, the Lake County Captains, the Lynchburg Hillcats, and the Akron Rubber Ducks.

He spent the 2019 minor league season with both the Akron RubberDucks and Columbus Clippers. There was no game to be played in 2020 as the season got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Indians called him up to the major leagues in April 2021. He made his MLB debut in May that year for the Indians.
