In Nashville, Tennessee, Murfee attended Montgomery Bell Academy. For four years, Murfree attended Vanderbilt University after being chosen out of high school in 2013.

When he was a freshman at Vanderbilt, Murfee redshirted his initial year and went on to play three seasons of college baseball for the Commodores.



Murfee played infield his first two seasons at Vanderbilt before switching to pitching his final season. For his senior year, Murfee transferred to Santa Clara University and redshirted.

This year’s MLB draft saw Murfee picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 33rd round with the 988th overall pick.

With the AquaSox, he went 3–2 with a 6.55 ERA in 33 innings in 2018. With the Modesto Nuts, Arkansas Travelers, and Tacoma Rainiers, he went 6–5 with a 3.57 ERA and had 136 strikeouts in 113+13 innings in 2019, a total of 113+3 innings.

This year’s Mariners minor league “60 ft., 6-in Club” Award went to Murfee. It wasn’t long before he signed with the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League after his regular-season appearances.

In addition, he was chosen for the 2019 WBSC Premier 12 squad of the United States on October 10th, 2019.

Murfee was added to the Mariners’ active roster on April 20, 2022. On April 29, 2022, he made his Major League Baseball debut, going the distance against the Miami Marlins.
