He played basketball and football at Central Valley High School, where he studied. He was the No. 2 receiver in the country and the 23rd overall recruit in the 2013 class coming out of high school.

Despite receiving offers from other colleges, he chose the University of Alabama to play college football with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
