Sean Michael Murphy, a professional baseball catcher from the United States, was born on October 4, 1994. He is now a member of the Oakland Athletics of the National League (MLB).



Murphy attended Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio, and Wright State University for his college baseball education.

He played college baseball for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 2015. He was voted an all-star by the league during the season.



The Oakland Athletics chose him in the third round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. Murphy made his professional ice hockey debut with the Vermont Lake Monsters in 2017.

Stockton Ports and Midland Rockhounds both signed him as a free agent after his first season. His combined 2018 and 2019 playing time with the two teams totalled 98 appearances, with a batting average of 250, 13 home runs, and 48 runs batted in.

On September 1, 2019, the Athletics selected Murphy’s contract and promptly promoted him to the major leagues.

He made his MLB debut on September 4 against Jake Jewell, and his first hit was a home run. Additionally, it marked the beginning of his professional music career.

He was awarded his first Gold Glove Award on November 7, 2021, for his performance.
