In high school, he attended Lakes Community High School, where he also played football. After graduating from high school, he made a commitment to play college football for the Western Michigan Broncos, but he later decided against it and instead attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison to play for the Wisconsin Badgers.

He redshirted in 2014 as a true freshman before starting all 13 games in 2015 as a redshirt freshman. Edwards signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in May 2019 as an undrafted free agent after going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft.
