After Corey Davis had to endure season-ending core surgery, the Jets expanded their wide receiver room by adding Tarik Black to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Black played high school football at Cheshire Academy, a state prep powerhouse, and was born in Hamden, Connecticut. In the Class of 2017, Black rose to become one of the top 100 recruits and was Connecticut’s top prospect. Black ultimately chose Michigan over Alabama, Auburn, and other prestigious schools.

Black’s Michigan career got off to a flying start against Florida, as he grabbed two passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Though he injured his left foot two games later and was never the same player for the Wolverines, that was about as good as it got for Black at Ann Arbor.

Injuries plagued Black for the following two seasons. He had significantly slipped down the depth chart by the time he returned to 100 percent in 2019.
