John Thomas Hatch is an American professional baseball pitcher who now plays for the Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball. Hatch was born on September 29, 1994, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States.
Jenks High School, located in Jenks, Oklahoma, was Hatch’s high school of choice. As a junior, he had a record of 7–2 with an earned run average of 1.60.
After not being selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft straight out of high school, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University and threw for the Oklahoma State Cowboys baseball team.
He decided to major in accounting in college. He was a member of the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League during the summer of 2014 when he played collegiate summer baseball.
Due to a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in the elbow, he was unable to pitch in 2015; nonetheless, the injury did not require him to undergo surgery.
He made a significant number of appearances on the mound in 2016, as Oklahoma State advanced to the College World Series.
Hatch won the Big 12 Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Year Award in 2016, his junior year, after posting a record of 9–3 with a 2.14 earned run average over 19 starts.
