Trenton Thompson, a safety for the New York Giants, is a prime example of an underrated college player who emerged from obscurity to become a starting defensive player for the San Diego State Aztecs after gradually improving his skills over the course of several seasons.
During his true freshman year of 2016, Thompson served as the secondary option to Malik Smith, a three-time all-Mountain West prospect. Thompson suffered an injury the following year and had to sit out the entire season.
