The Marlins decided not to keep Kinley on their 40-man roster after the 2017 campaign.

Later, Kinley pitched for the Tigres del Licey of the Dominican Winter League, recording a 0.47 ERA in 19 innings thrown and striking out 32 batters.

He was chosen by the Minnesota Twins in the 2017 Rule 5 draft from the Marlins organization.

Kinley was added to the Twins’ 25-man roster for Opening Day 2018. Prior to being assigned for assignment on April 26, he pitched 3+1/3 innings for a 24.30 ERA while giving up nine earned runs on nine hits, including two home runs, with four strikeouts and four walks.

On May 1, 2018, the Twins gave Kinley back to the Miami Marlins. His destination was New Orleans.

On September 4, the Marlins gave him a promotion to the main leagues. In 49+13 innings worked in the 2019 season, Kinley has a 3.65 ERA while also issuing 36 walks.

Kinley was taken off waivers by the Colorado Rockies from Miami on December 9, 2019. Kinley had a 5.32 ERA and 9.9 K/9 in 23+2/3 innings pitched across 24 appearances in 2020 with the Rockies.

Kinley was diagnosed with a flexor tear in his right elbow on June 15, 2022, according to magnetic resonance imaging.
