He played high school football while attending North Crowley High School. During his junior year, he was selected for both the first team all-district and the third team all-state.

As a three-star prospect just out of high school, he first committed to playing football at Abilene Christian. He turned down offers from Houston, Navy, and New Mexico in favor of playing for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team at the University of Tulsa.

He redshirted his true freshman year in 2019, however he participated in the final four games of the season. He started all nine of the club’s games at left tackle during the COVID-19-shortened season and was selected to the American Athletic Conference’s first team in 2020. (AAC).
