Peterson debuted professionally in 2011 with the Eugene Emeralds. Over 276 at-bats, he hit .243/360/.333 with two home runs in 73 games. He hit .286/.378/.392 in 444 at-bats over 117 games with the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2012.

Peterson and his wife, Brianna Pugh, a former University of Oregon soccer player, have a daughter who was born in 2016.

They reside in the Louisiana town of Lake Charles. Mallory Pugh of the United States women’s national soccer team, an Olympian and World Cup champion, is his brother-in-law.
