In Las Vegas, Nevada, where he graduated from, he played football for three seasons at Western High School. With 238 tackles (171 solo), 30.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles at the end of his career, he had a strong performance.

He represented the Arizona State Sun Devils while he was a collegiate football player. He took part in every game of the 12-game season as a true freshman, starting the final eight. He made 44 total tackles, 10.0 of them for a loss, 2 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery.
