In the National Football League, Jaelan Everett Phillips plays football professionally. He participates in football as an outside linebacker for the Miami Dolphins. He is 1.96 m tall and 121 kg in weight. He graduated with 264 tackles, 31.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three interceptions from Redlands East Valley High School, where he was a student.

He had over 20 scholarship offers and was regarded as the top high school football talent in the class of 2017 before deciding to attend UCLA. Between 2017 and 2018, he played collegiate football for the UCLA Bruins. He participated in seven games as a true freshman and made 21 tackles while also deflecting two passes. Prior to a concussion ending his second season, he participated in four games.

In order to play football for the Hurricanes, he transferred to the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in 2019. In accordance with NCAA transfer regulations, he was forced to miss the 2019 campaign. However, he made a start in 2020 and finished with 45 tackles, 8 sacks, and an interception. He was a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award and was named to the second team of both the All-American and All-ACC lists.
