David Jack Mayfield, an American professional baseball player was born on September 30, 1990. Mayfield currently plays as an infielder for the Los Angeles Angels. Mayfield was signed by the Houston Astros as an undrafted free agent in 2013.
He made his major league debut for Houston in 2019. He has participated in MLB games with the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, and Houston Astros.
In Del Rio, Texas, Mayfield attended Del Rio High School. From 2010 to 2013, he played college baseball for the Oklahoma Sooners while was a student at the University of Oklahoma. He participated in the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Brewster Whitecaps’ collegiate summer baseball program in 2011.
On June 16, 2013, the Astros signed Mayfield as an undrafted free agent. He split his rookie campaign in 2013 between the Vermont Lake Monsters and the Greeneville Astros.
The Atlanta Braves signed Mayfield off waivers on November 20, 2020. On February 24, 2021, the Braves designated Mayfield for assignment in response to Guillermo Heredia’s waiver request.
The Los Angeles Angels took Mayfield off waivers on February 25, 2021. On April 24, 2021, Mayfield was designated for assignment after going hitless in his first three at-bats.
On June 13, 2021, Mayfield was sold to the Los Angeles Angels after he has previously played for the Seattle Mariners from April 27, 2021. On August 30, Mayfield hit his first grand slam of the season. against Corey Kluber of the New York Yankees.
