He attended at the University of Notre Dame after completing his high school education and played football for the Fighting Irish there.

He played five seasons for the Fighting Irish. By the time he was a junior, he had made his debut as a sophomore and had accumulated 31 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. He used a medical redshirt following a shoulder injury that occurred four games into his senior season.
