Born Reginald David Vereen. Vereen’s 2019 football season at Newberry was cut short and his football career may have been cut short as a result of injuries he sustained in a car accident. He finished his sophomore year with a total of 56 receptions, 756 yards, and 7 touchdowns.
Vereen received his high school education at South Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. During his junior year, he set single-season school records for receptions, yards, and touchdowns while playing for South Florence High School.
In 2017, he played in eight games and recorded 16 tackles (11 solos), one interception, and four pass breakups. He also had five kickoff returns for 111 yards (22.2 per game).
In the game against Mars Hill, Vereen made his first career interception, helping the Wolves’ defense earn the SAC Player of the Week award. The Wolves’ defense tied the conference record with 6 interceptions and held the Lions to a record-low 5.2 passer rating.
Newberry was ranked second in the Southern Athletic Conference in terms of total defense (314.5 yards per game), third in terms of scoring defense, and second in terms of passing defense (171.5 yards per game) (19.3 ppg)
