He graduated from Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, which is located in the state of Indiana. There, he was active in the sport of football.
After tearing his ACL during the previous year’s junior campaign, he returned for his senior year and played in all seven games, compiling 84 tackles and four sacks.
In 2018, he was a participant in the All-American game that was held by the United States Army. He made the decision to play college football at the university of Michigan. During his time at the University of Michigan, he was a member of the football team known as the Michigan Wolverines.
During his first year at Michigan, he participated in just one game of the 2018 season. He started the 2019 season as a reserve player due to the fact that he was a redshirt freshman, but he rapidly moved up to the starting lineup.
In total, he played in 13 games, and he started 10 of them. He finished with 66 tackles and 4 sacks. In the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, he was selected by the New England Patriots to join their team.
