According to a team spokesman, Kacy Clemens, the son of New York Yankees icon Roger Clemens, became the inaugural member of the Staten Island FerryHawks on Monday.

The Toronto Blue Jays selected the 27-year-old Texan in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Texas.

Clemens, a first baseman by trade, has spent the last two seasons in independent organizations but will make his Atlantic League debut in 2022.

Clemens hit .278 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI in 77 games for Kane County of the American Association last year.

During a five-year career as the Yankees’ star pitcher, his father, simply known as “The Rocket,” helped the Bronx win World Series titles in 1999 and 2000.

In 2007, he returned to the team for his final season, finishing with 354 victories and seven Cy Young Awards.

During an interview with NY1, the younger Clemens said he hopes to bring some of his father’s “charisma” to Staten Island and that he’s looking forward to spending time with the New York fans.

He ended by noting that bringing a title to Staten Island is his ultimate ambition.
