DaMarcus Fields was born in Taylor, Texas, on March 11, 1998. While a student at Taylor High School, he participated in basketball, track, and two varsity football seasons.
The Austin American-Statesman named him to the second team all-Central Texas and the first team all-14-4A district teams. Fields recorded 101 tackles, four interceptions, and eight forced fumbles in his senior season.
Fields is an American football cornerback for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Texas Tech and signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
Fields made a Texas Tech commitment. He redshirted and did not participate as a freshman in 2016, instead joining the scout team. He played in all 13 games as a cornerback starting in 2017. (11 as a starter).
He finished fifth on the team with a total of 51 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and one interception. His overall number of fumble recoveries ranked 26th nationally and tops in the conference. After scoring on an interception return against Oklahoma State, he was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Fields participated in 12 games in 2021 and made 50 tackles. At the end of the year, he was awarded second-team all-conference, making the list for the fourth time. He also had a team-high 11 pass breakups.
Following the end of the regular season, he was offered the chance to participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Fields finished his college career with 224 tackles, 13.5 for loss, four forced fumbles and four recoveries, four interceptions, and 45 total passes defended.
He was one of three Texas Tech players invited to the NFL Combine. He was the first person in his family to earn a college degree.
After the 2022 NFL Draft, Fields signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. He was released on August 30 but later re-signed to the practice squad. Fields was promoted to the active roster for the Saints’ week three game against the Carolina Panthers, where he made his NFL debut, before being returned to the practice squad.
