In August, he was promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals after slashing .323/.381/.529 in 102 games with 15 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 28 doubles.

He hit .286 with one home run and 13 RBIs in 24 at-bats for Palm Beach. Montero won the Midwest League’s Most Valuable Player award at the conclusion of the season.

Montero started the 2019 season with the Springfield Cardinals before being placed on the disabled list in April. In May, he returned to play, but by the end of the month, he was back on the disabled list.

In July, he was re-activated. Montero batted .188 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 59 games with Springfield. Following the season, he was selected by the Glendale Desert Dogs to play in the Arizona Fall League.

Following the 2019 season, Montero was added to the Saints’ 40–man roster. Since the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Montero did not play a minor league game in 2020.
