While a student at Oceanside High School, he participated in football. After high school, he went to college and played football for the Arizona Wildcats at the University of Arizona.
He played in 11 games as a freshman, making 23 tackles and intercepting four passes. As a senior in 2019, he played in 49 games and accumulated 159 tackles, six tackles for loss, a sack, seven interceptions, and 41 passes deflected.
A career-high 55 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, and nine passes defended were also among his accomplishments.
Whittaker signed a free-agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals in April 2020, following the 2020 NFL Draft. He was let go after the final roster cuts on September 5, 2020.
