As it is, he was named to the SAL All-Star team as the best right-handed pitcher in the South Atlantic League despite his mid-season call-up, and he would have been second in ERA behind Madison Bumgarner if he had qualified.

To put that in perspective, he was listed by Baseball America as the SAL’s fourth-best prospect, just ahead of the likes of Bumgarner, Heyward, and Stanton.

After Trevor Cahill, Carlos Santana, Lars Anderson, and Brett Anderson, Baseball America ranked him as the fifth-best Cal League prospect.

The second-best prospect in Colorado and finest changeup of any Rockies farmhand were also his accolades.

With the Rox in 2009, Jhoulys made his major league debut with a 0-1, 4.91 record in 9 appearances. For the Leones del Caracas in the Venezuelan League, he went 1-2 with a 4.73 ERA.

He had a solid year in the starting rotation in 2010, finishing 9-11, 3.28 in 28 games, including 21 starts, with an ERA+ of 142 despite a losing record.

He threw 137 1/3 innings, walked 60, and struck out 138. A year ago, he made 31 starts for the Rockies and had an 11-14-3 record while serving as the team’s top pitching prospect.

Even though he led the NL in walks (ahead of Tim Lincecum by one), he also had a much better record than his record indicated, striking out 150 times and allowing only 168 hits in 194 innings.

He was among the league leaders in ERA+ (tied for 4th), losses (tied for 3rd), and WHIP (tied for 3rd) (between Lincecum and Matt Cain).
