In December 2019, Matt Peart received his degree from the University of Connecticut in the field of allied health sciences with a concentration in occupational therapy. Peart was born in Jamaica, but he moved to the United States in 2002 with his family and eventually settled in the Bronx.
Peart’s first interest was in soccer, but he spent the majority of his childhood concentrating on basketball instead. He kept playing basketball and was captain of the team at Governor’s Academy, a private boarding school in Byfield, Massachusetts, where he also ran track and played lacrosse.
During his time there, he also participated in other sports. Peart was persuaded to play football, despite the fact that it was not a sport he had ever participated in before. He spent his first year on the junior varsity team and his second year on the scout team.
After starting at the defensive end as a junior, he moved over to left tackle as a senior. Through his contributions, his team was able to win four consecutive titles in the Independent School League.
