Griffin has coached a long list of outstanding players, including Parker Mushinski, throughout his time as Eagles baseball coach.

When he pitched for the Houston Astros against the Seattle Mariners, the left-handed pitcher became the first to make it all the way to the major leagues.

Mushinski threw a perfect inning before being relieved after striking out Eugenio Suarez in the first inning.
That match was “amazing,” Mushinski said afterward.

“When you’re a youngster, you daydream about stuff like this. There were several good pitches that I was able to throw in the game.

Griff watched to see if Mushinski would be called up and was overjoyed that one of his former players shined in the game. After the game, Mushinski sent him a text message.

Like everyone else, Griffin remarked, “I was in amazement at what I saw. When you watch a child you coached on a major league mound toss a pitch, much less record a clean inning, it’s an incredible feeling.

When I learn that you coached him, it’s quite humiliating. “It meant a lot to him that he texted shortly after.”

To witness him pitch in person, six members of Mushinski’s family came out to support him.

As Mushinski put it, “They flew from Texas to Seattle on a whim.” “It’s a great feeling to know that they’ll be here on Easter Sunday.”

Mushinski’s family couldn’t pass up the chance. As for how long he’ll stay with the Astros, there’s no way of knowing.

As a replacement for Ryan Pressly, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right knee irritation, Mushinski was called up.

Arlington, Texas, will host a four-game series between the Astros and Rangers beginning on April 25. Pressly has a comeback window before the show even starts.

If Mushinski is still with the Astros for Game 1, Griffin will be rooting for him to continue his ascent in the game that began back in Argyle.
