What Team Is Sheldon Neuse On?

The A’s 8-2 loss to the Giants on Tuesday night at Oracle Park continued Neuse’s hot start at the plate. His fifth multi-hit game of the season came in the third inning when he knocked an RBI single off Carlos Rodón to put the Red Sox ahead.

Neuse’s offensive prowess in the Minor Leagues should not come as a surprise, given his long history of success at the plate.

This is the hitter the A’s expected to see in the Majors when he was regularly ranked as one of the organization’s top prospects from 2017-20.

Although it took the Dodgers trading him in 2021 and then reclaiming him off waivers in March, Neuse now appears prepared to live up to his potential.

Sheldon is “making the most out of his situation,” manager Mark Kotsay said. It was there, I believe, in his first outing here. Now, we’re seeing it on a regular basis.”

Neuse’s previous big-league stints in ’19 and ’21 were limited in terms of playing time and offensive production.

His .327 hitting average ranks him 14th among American League hitters in what is actually his first opportunity to play every day at the highest level of baseball.
