Tyler Conklin, a tight end for the New York Jets in the National Football League, was born on July 30, 1995. In the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected him after his collegiate football career at Northwood and Central Michigan.

Conklin was a standout two-sport athlete at L’Anse Creuse High School – North in Macomb Township, Michigan, where he played wide receiver in football and combo guard in basketball.

Conklin scored 22 points in a 59-46 semifinal loss to eventual state champion Saginaw High to help his basketball team advance to the Class A Final Four as a junior.

Conklin received a full-ride basketball scholarship to Northwood University after finishing high school. He lasted for one semester and participated in seven games, averaging 2.6 rebounds, 1.9 points, and 1.4 assists per game. Midway through his first year, he transferred to Central Michigan University, where he walked on to the football team.

Conklin sat out his rookie season with the Chippewas to put on weight because his weight was below average for the tight end position. He won a backup position in 2015 after putting on 25 pounds throughout the winter and catching six passes for 95 yards.

Conklin did well at the 2018 NFL Combine, placing second among tight ends in the vertical, fourth in the broad jump, fifth in the three-cone drill, and ninth in the 40-yard sprint.
