Caratini, a former Chicago Cub, was acquired in exchange for catcher Brett Sullivan and outfielder Kory Howell, who was sent back to the Padres.

As the only Opening Day roster catcher other than starter Omar Narvaez, Caratini is expected to get action.

After joining the Marlins in exchange for minor leaguers Hayden Cantrelle and Alexis Ramirez, Jackson will be assigned to AAA Nashville.

Caratini had a .300/.391/.550 slash line in 23 plate appearances with the Padres in spring training, including one home run and three RBIs.

He also only struck out once, which is encouraging for a Brewers team that has battled with strikeouts recently.

In his first and only season with the Padres, Caratini slashed .227/.309/.323 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs in 356 plate appearances, nearly matching his career numbers.

After playing in 246 games over four seasons with the Cubs, he got a lot more playing time with the Padres, appearing in a career-high 116 games.

Jackson, who spent three seasons in the major leagues with the Braves and Marlins, has not had much success.

His lifetime slash line of .132/.243/.225 does not speak well for him, but the Brewers appear to believe he can contribute off the bench this season.

After going 0-for-5 with one walk in six plate appearances in spring training, he’ll begin the season in AAA.
