This past weekend’s 2022 NFL Draft saw three former members of the Purdue football team get taken. During the three-day tournament in Las Vegas, defensive end George Karlaftis, wide receiver David Bell, and fullback Zander Horvath all heard their names called.

The road to the NFL isn’t over for the undrafted Boilermakers, though. After the draft, undrafted free agents Jaylan Alexander (a linebacker) and DaMarcus Mitchell (a defensive end) both signed contracts.

When did DaMarcus Mitchell get drafted?

DaMarcus Mitchell was undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft. After not hearing his name called during the first seven rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, Mitchell eventually agreed to sign with the New England Patriots.

He is a rookie in the league and thus has limited experience playing professionally. Mitchell joined his veteran colleagues for OTAs, a mandated minicamp, and the team’s rookie minicamp and development program. Naturally, he has zero game experience.

While at college, Mitchell was a major contributor to the football team. He started for Southwest Missouri Community College in 2018 as a running back, totaling 18 carries for 123 yards and a score.

However, he switched to defense as a freshman and transferred to Purdue in the offseason that followed. In the 16 games he played for the Boilermakers over the next two seasons, he recorded 5.5 sacks, 59 tackles, and three forced fumbles for a total of 14.0 defensive yards lost.
