He attended Abraham Lincoln High School for his freshman year before transferring to Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School.

He played football during his time in high school. After high school, he verbally agreed to play collegiate football for Temple, but he later changed his mind and reopened his recruitment. He turned down invitations to play for Baylor, Florida, Georgia, and LSU in favor of the University of Alabama. He represented the Alabama Crimson Tide in collegiate football from 2018 to 2020.

He participated in 12 games as a redshirt freshman and recorded 26 tackles, including six tackles for loss and two sacks. He was also selected for the SEC All-Freshman team. He finished the season with 37 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and three passes defended.
