The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.[5] Founded in 1960 as an expansion team, the team began to play the following year.
They are called after the Vikings of ancient Scandinavia, a nod to Minnesota’s strong Scandinavian American heritage. United States Bank Stadium is the team’s home venue in the Downtown East neighborhood of Minneapolis.
It is difficult to find an NFL team without a Super Bowl championship that has a better regular season and overall winning % than Minnesota’s 524–451–11, which includes more playoff runs, division crowns, and Super Bowl appearances (tied with Buffalo Bills).
Of the non-winning Super Bowl teams, they have appeared in the most conference championships, and they are one of three teams (together with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams) to have done so every decade since the 1970s.
With 30 postseason defeats, the Vikings are the only NFL team winning the regular season and combined records that has yet to win a Super Bowl.
When were Vikings good NFL?
The 1988 campaign was an exciting year, yet it was a very quiet year overall. One of the more noteworthy parts was the fact that it was the year that the Vikings drafted Randal McDaniel, who would eventually be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
However, the success of the Vikings team on the field was highlighted by the fact that they were ranked first in defensive yards allowed, takeaways, point differential, and yardage difference, in addition to being ranked second in points allowed.
After the AFL and NFL merged into one league, the Vikings continued their dominance in the division by winning yet another championship.
The fact that the Vikings defense has become only the second defense in the history of the NFL to finish first in the league in both fewest points allowed and fewest total yards allowed for two straight seasons is something worth mentioning here.
