Before he transitioned into a senior player with the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL), Casey Joseph Toohill played college football at Stanford and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Toohill, a three-star prospect, chose Stanford over football offers from other schools like Boston College, Nevada, Utah, Washington, and Washington State. Toohill was a fifth-year senior at Stanford who started each of his 12 games.

After compiling 11.5 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, and 60 stops, he was named second-team All-Pac-12. He recorded 124 tackles (21.5 for loss), 14 sacks, and an interception throughout the course of his career. Toohill completed the 40-yard sprint in 4.62 seconds at the 2020 NFL Combine.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Toohill in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 233rd overall. On October 13, 2020, the Eagles released him.

The day after the Eagles released Toohill, the Washington Football Team claimed him off waivers. Toohill’s first career sack of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came in Week 6 of the 2021 campaign.

In Week 11’s game against the Carolina Panthers, he started in place of Chase Young, who the team had placed on injured reserve. He was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on December 11, 2021, and had to miss the Week 14 game against the Dallas Cowboys before being activated again a week later.
