Johnson attended First Coast High School while growing up in Jacksonville, Florida. He rushed for 398 yards and nine touchdowns while completing 215 of 328 pass attempts for 3,710 yards as a senior, earning him the titles of Class 8A Player of the Year and Florida’s “Mr. Football.”

Prior to his second year, Johnson turned down offers from Clemson and Florida to play collegiate football at Florida State.

Johnson passed for 2,646 yards and 26 touchdowns during his one and only season with the Lions. He made the decision to move to Florida Atlantic in order to play college football there.
