Hafford, who is now 24 years old, is a native of Tarleton State in the state of Texas. In the first year that his institution competed in Division I, he led the Western Athletic Conference in defensive efficiency and was named the conference’s defensive player of the year.

Hafford was also chosen for the second team of All-Americans. A senior-year injury prevented Hafford from graduating in 2019, so he stayed in school for an unprecedented six years. After the 2020 football season was interrupted by COVID-19, he was given a year of academic credit. He, therefore, came back to the institution in 2021 for the sixth season.
