Essang Bassey, a cornerback in the NFL, plays for the Denver Broncos. He played wide receiver, cornerback, and running back for Columbus High School during his time there for high school football.

During his senior season, he was a strong kick returner who averaged 30 yards on per return. He participated in collegiate football while attending Wake Forest University and playing for the Demon Deacons.
