Kenny Golladay is an American football wide receiver who was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 3, 1993.
Golladay was chosen by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft (96th overall). He was the 39th player drafted from Northern Illinois and the sixth-highest selection in school history. He was chosen as the 12th wide receiver in the 2017 NFL Draft.
On June 19, 2017, the Detroit Lions signed Golladay to a four-year, $3.19 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $718,824.
He played in the Detroit Lions’ season-opening game against the Arizona Cardinals, making four receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions prevailed 35–23. In the fourth quarter, Matt Stafford completed a 10-yard ball to him for his first career touchdown.
To end the game, he also caught a 45-yard reception. Golladay suffered a strained hamstring and missed five games (Weeks 3-9). In the Lions’ 44-20 loss against the Baltimore Ravens on December 3, 2017, Golladay made his first career start and caught two catches for 44 yards.
The next week, in a 24-21 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he got his first career rush for a nine-yard gain and three receptions for 17 receiving yards. During a 35-11 victory over the Green Bay Packers in Week 17, Golladay caught two catches for a season-high 80 yards and scored a 54-yard touchdown.
In 11 games and five starts, Golladay concluded the 2017 season with 28 receptions for 477 receiving yards and three touchdown catches. With a 9-7 record and a second-place finish in the NFC North, the Detroit Lions fired head coach Jim Caldwell at the conclusion of the campaign.
In 2016, Golladay’s final collegiate season, he had 87 receptions for 1,156 yards and eight touchdowns. Golladay accepted his invitation to participate in the 2017 East-West Shrine Game, but it was revealed on December 23 that he was unable to due to an elbow injury sustained during Senior Bowl practice.
58 wide receivers from colleges attended the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, including him. Golladay’s performance was only average; he placed 26th in the three-cone drill and 20th overall among wide receivers in the 40-yard dash. Golladay went to Northern Illinois’ pro day on March 10, 2017, but he decided to stand on his combined stats and merely participate in positional drills.
In front of scouts and team representatives from 18 NFL teams, he did well and caught every pass. Golladay was the star of the Huskies’ pro day, despite the presence of 13 other prospects.
He joined the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints for private workouts and visits. Golladay was predicted by NFL draft analysts and scouts to be selected in the fourth or fifth round at the completion of the pre-draft process. NFLDraftScout.com graded him as the 21st best wide receiver in the draft.
