Harris attended college at Dr. Phillips High School in Florida where he played collegiate football. Harris made 102 tackles and two interceptions between 2014 and 2016. Due to a torn Achilles tendon, he was unable to play in the 2017 season.

Harris was taken by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft (184th overall). On September 3, 2018, Harris was added to the injured reserve list.



He was taken off injured reserve and added to the active roster on November 1st, 2018. In the final play of Week 16’s contest against the Chicago Bears, Harris struck Mitchell Trubisky.

Six days later, he was fined $10,026 as a result. On August 31, 2019, Harris was cut by the 49ers, and the next day he was signed to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on October 3, 2019.

In Week 13’s tight 20-17 road defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, Harris caused a fumble on quarterback Lamar Jackson and recovered the ball.

The 49ers made it to Super Bowl LIV, but the Kansas City Chiefs defeated them 31-20. Harris extended his contract with the 49ers by one year on March 5, 2021. At the start of the 2021 NFL season, it was revealed that Harris would switch positions from strong safety to linebacker.

On April 25, 2022, Harris and the New York Jets reached a contract.
