Sean Robert Doolittle (born September 26, 1986) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who pitches for the Washington Nationals (MLB). He played for the Oakland Athletics, Cincinnati Reds, and Seattle Mariners in the past.
Doolittle was drafted as first baseman and outfielder by the Athletics in the first round of the 2007 MLB draft. In 2012, he debuted as a pitcher in the Major League Baseball. In both 2014 and 2018, he was named to the All-Star team.
Doolittle was born and raised in New Jersey’s Tabernacle Township. He lived near a baseball field and used to practice there frequently. As a pitcher, he competed in Babe Ruth Baseball.
Doolittle was a standout pitcher for Shawnee High School in Medford, New Jersey. Shawnee won the state title under Doolittle’s guidance. Doolittle was a starting pitcher as well as a first baseman at the University of Virginia.
Danny Hultzen has now passed him for the most victories by a Virginia pitcher in a career – 22. In 2005, he was a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Harwich Mariners. Doolittle was chosen to the National (Collegiate) Baseball Team of the United States in 2005 and 2006.
