Tyler Allgeier grew up in Fontana, California, and attended Henry J. Kaiser High School. He played high school football and finished his high school career with a record-setting 5,000 running yards and 56 touchdowns.

After high school, Tyler Allgeier attended Brigham Young University (BYU) and played for the BYU Cougars from (2018–2021).

Allgeier appeared in four games during his freshman season at BYU in 2018 and had nine carries for a total of 49 yards. He went from being a running back to a linebacker in 2019.

During that season, he participated in all 13 games and recorded 26 tackles and 0.5 sacks on defense while rushing 17 times for 119 yards and a touchdown on offense.

In 2020, Allgeier switched back to his previous position of running back and participated in all 11 games, making eight starts.

At the end of the season, he finished with 1,130 yards rushing on 150 carries, scoring 13 touchdowns.
