The San Diego Padres selected Hedges out of JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California, in the second round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.

Despite having a UCLA commitment, he signed a $3 million contract with the Padres. Hedges joined the Class AAA El Paso Chihuahuas of the Pacific Coast League in 2015.

Hedges was then promoted to the major leagues as Derek Norris’ backup on May 4, when the Padres designated Wil Nieves for assignment.
Hedges hit.324 with 2 home runs in 79 at-bats with the Chihuahuas.

Hedges was dealt by the Padres to the Cleveland Indians on August 31, 2020, along with Josh Naylor, Cal Quantrill, Mike Clevinger, Greg Allen, Matt Waldron, and the minor leaguers Gabriel Arias, Owen Miller, and Joey Cantillo.

For Cleveland in 2020, Hedges played in 6 games, hitting.083 with 0 RBIs and 0 home runs.

Hedges does not currently have a girlfriend, but he is married to his lovely wife Maggie Hedges, so he is not exactly alone either. Hedges and his wife Maggie, who they wed in 2019, reside in San Diego during the offseason.
