César Augusto Hernández is a Venezuelan professional baseball second baseman who currently plays for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball.



Hernández joined the Washington Nationals organization by way of a contract for a single season on November 30, 2021.

His name is pronounced SAY-zahr, and he was born on May 23, 1990. He began his career with the Philadelphia Phillies and went on to play for the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox.



In 2016, he led the major leagues in bunt hits, as well as the National League (NL) in infield hits and triples. He also led the main leagues in triples.

At the age of sixteen, on July 2, 2006, Cesar Hernández was picked up by the Philadelphia Phillies organization as an undrafted free agency amateur.

During the years 2012 and 2013, he was a member of the Reading Phillies and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. In 2016, he had a batting average of.294, a slugging percentage of.373, an RBI total of 39, and 17 stolen bases.

In 2017, he led the big leagues in bunt hits with 15, the highest by any Phillies since Larry Bowa also had 15 in 1975. Additionally, he led the National League in infield hits with 34 and triples, and he led the major leagues overall in triples (11).
