He attended the University of Miami and played for the Miami Hurricanes after graduating from high school. He earned a sociology degree from the university and graduated.

He recorded 50 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, three passes defended and one interception in his final season with the Hurricanes in 2007. Campbell was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. In 2008, he was selected as the sixth defensive end.
