Where Is Candelario From?

Jeimer Candelario is from New York City, New York in the United States.

The Tigers may try to persuade third baseman Jeimer Candelario to accept a long-term contract this winter. We wondered not long ago if Jeimer Candelario would ever figure it out in the major leagues.

He had a solid debut in Detroit after being acquired in a trade from the Chicago Cubs at the 2017 trade deadline.

However, his numbers plunged in each of the following two seasons, hitting a bottom in 2019 that had many wondering about his place in the Tigers’ plans.

His plate discipline provided some optimism, but time was running short. Candelario is currently one of the team’s most consistent performers and a crucial part of their revitalized winning culture after two years.

Candelario had a 136 wRC+, a .355 on-base percentage, and seven home runs in 206 plate appearances during the brief 2020 season.

Some skepticism arose due to the short amount of action, but in retrospect, Candelario was on the verge of a breakout season, albeit without the home run power.

Over the weekend, Candelario increased his lead in doubles in the big leagues to 39. He’s also hitting .357 with a .357 on-base percentage.

He’s still hitting a lot of line drives, with a 26.9% line drive percentage that ranks fifth in the majors, allowing him to maintain a .280 batting average.

Finally, he’s reduced his strikeout rate to 21.7 percent, which is better than league average, while walking at a rate of 10.4 percent.

These are all signs of a strong hitter whose ability to get on base helps him produce even when he’s struggling at the plate.

Even if they don’t have league-average home run production, hitters with high strikeout-to-walk ratios and a lot of line drives for extra bases are valuable.

It’s difficult to argue with the fact that he’s developed into a tough out, a doubles machine in a park designed for them, and a reliable run producer.
