Chad Wallach played with the Miami Marlins from 2018 through 2021, during which time his father held the position of bench coach for the Marlins.
In the postseason of 2020, when the Marlins took advantage of the expanded postseason that was caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, he played for the Marlins and went 1 for 14 in the five games that his team played.
He was the starting catcher for his club. In 15 games played throughout the season, he had a batting average of .2227.
Even though he only played for Miami in the major leagues that year, he was traded during the 2021 season to the organizations of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels in quick succession.
After beginning 2022 with the Angels in their minor league affiliate in AAA, he was promoted to the major league club in early May after the COVID-19 illness disabled both of the Angels’ catchers, Kurt Suzuki and Max Stassi.
On May 10, he had the best game of his career when he caught rookie Reid Detmers’ no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays and also homered in the 12-0 victory.
This game was the highlight of his career. It was the fourth home run of his professional career; he had previously hit one in each of Miami’s three separate seasons during his time there.
Matt Wallach and Brett Wallach, both of whom played in the minor leagues, are Wallach’s brothers.
