Damar played high school football at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School. There, he was named First team All-State and the Class AAA A Defensive Player of the Year. He played in nine games as a redshirt freshman, making 41 tackles and one interception. He was a redshirt sophomore in college who had 90 tackles and two interceptions for the Panthers. Going into his senior year, he had been selected to be the team captain. He led the team with 67 tackles and seven pass breakups, earning a spot on the ACC second team. Hamlin was selected by the Buffalo Bills as their 212nd overall pick in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. On May 21, 2021, he inked a $4 million rookie contract with the Buffalo Bills.
