George Fant plays football as an offensive tackle for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He is from Bowling Green, Kentucky
He participated in NCAA basketball and football for Western Kentucky before being signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Fant was used as a hybrid tight end for Seattle’s tackle-eligible plays starting in 2018.
In the second preseason game, Fant tore his anterior cruciate ligament, forcing him to miss the 2017 campaign. He was activated for injured reserve on September 2, 2017.
When rookie tight end Will Dissly hurt himself during a game against the Arizona Cardinals in week four, Fant was forced to switch to a hybrid offensive tackle/tight end position. He would line up as the sixth offensive lineman, either outside or on the line itself, to be eligible to play as a receiver. Fant, who excelled at his new position, played a significant role in the Seahawks’ rushing offense in 2018, which was regarded as the best in the league.
A 9-yard pass from quarterback Russell Wilson to Fant on December 10, 2018, during a Monday Night Football matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in week 13, marked the beginning of his professional career.
Fant continued to handle his hybrid lineman duties for the Seahawks in 2019. He filled in for Duane Brown as the starting offensive tackle for a portion of the season while Brown was hurt.
In a 37-30 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, December 2, 2019, in a Monday Night Football game, Fant helped the Seahawks rush for a season-high 218 yards. He lined up in different spots along the line on 42 plays during the course of the game and was recorded as an eligible receiver on those occasions.
