Cook upgraded his academic standing from sophomore to junior by taking additional classes following his first year of study. On 91 carries during his senior season, he carried for 782 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. During his time at his high school, Cook amassed 2,019 yards rushing and 30 touchdowns on the ground.

After his freshman year of high school, Cook made a verbal commitment to play collegiate football at Florida State, where his brother was already enrolled in the program. This was after Cook received strong marks as a recruit.

Later, over the summer before his senior year, he changed his mind and decided not to commit. After deliberating over the offers from Louisville and Florida, Cook eventually put his signature on a letter of intent to play for Georgia.

After playing his final season of high school football, Cook made the decision to complete his secondary education at Miami Northwestern Senior High School.
